The South Carolina Shrimpers Association filed a federal lawsuit on June 13, 2025, accusing 25 Lowcountry restaurants of “shrimp fraud” by marketing imported shrimp as “local” or “wild-caught,” alleging violations of the federal Lanham Act and the South Carolina Unfair Trade Practices Act.
The association contends this misrepresentation harms both consumers and the local shrimping industry, seeking damages, injunctive relief, and transparency from the restaurants.
