Resolution Reached in Shrimpgate Litigation with Hyman’s Seafood

Today, we are proud to announce that we have reached a resolution in the recent “Shrimpgate”
litigation with one Defendant, Hyman’s Seafood. More importantly, we appreciate that they have
reaffirmed their commitment to transparency and pledged their support in our fight to save the
shrimping industry.

The South Carolina Shrimpers Association has always fought to defend the hardworking
shrimpers whose livelihoods are tied to these waters. Shrimping isn’t just a job here; it’s a legacy, a
culture, and a vital part of our identity as a coastal community. When questions arose about seafood
sourcing, we felt a responsibility to act, not to tear down, but to hold up the standards that generations
of shrimpers have lived by.

Hymans Seafood has been in operation since 1987, and the Hyman family has been operating
at that location for over 130 years. Like the shrimping industry, their roots here run deep, and their
goal has always been to provide guests with a quality and memorable experience. Their dedication to
this goal has led to numerous accolades from across the hospitality industry. “While we understand
the concerns raised, we’ve also listened, learned, and made the decision to do more, because we
believe in doing right by our customers, and by our community.” -Victor & Tobias Hyman.

When Hymans learned that, on more than one occasion, their social media posts implied that
they were serving local shrimp, they, as we had hoped, chose the path of integrity and contacted The
Law Office of Gedney Howe. Our discussions were prompt, honest, and solution-oriented. The
mistakes made were not malicious and resulted from an oversight by an outside social media team.
Hymans has implemented measures to ensure that this will not happen in the future.

As a new generation of owners takes the helm at Hymans, I, along with the South Carolina
Shrimpers Association, applaud Hymans Seafood for being the first to step up and thank them for
their pledge to support our efforts moving forward.

We hope this collaboration sets an example, not just for restaurants and fishermen, but for
everyone who cares about honesty, sustainability, and the legacy of the Lowcountry.

We’re proud to stand together, and we’re excited for what comes next.
